A short stop before continuing our way up to Alishan.

We chose to take the Alishan Forest Railway from Chiayi to the current end stop at Shizilu. The remaining track section up to the recreation area is currently under repair, and is expected to be reopened the next year or two! So you guys better save this and visit when they open all the way up to Alishan!

Just a little background on the railway - The Japanese opened this line in 1912 to bring Alishan’s prized cypress and cedar down to the plains. The train starts at 30m above sea level and climbs to 2,216m. It is 71.6km in length, and the train trundle through 47 tunnels and over 72 bridges on their way through changing subtropical, temperate, and alpine habitats. Will share more about the train ride experience in my upcoming post!

We didn’t spend much time here at Shizilu but we got a 便当while waiting to catch the bus up to Alishan!
