Gogiyo.sg — Korean BBQ in Toa Payoh North

Hidden in an unassuming industrial food court in Toa Payoh North, @gogiyo.sg specialises in Korean food, mainly 𝐊-𝐁𝐁𝐐, 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐰 and 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐬. Opened by a group of childhood friends who enjoy korean food, they aim to bring quality yet affordable K-BBQ to the masses.

A dish that you cannot leave without trying is their 𝐆𝐨𝐠𝐢 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐁𝐐. This platter, which consists of 12 items including 𝙗𝙪𝙡𝙜𝙤𝙜𝙞 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙛, 𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨, 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙣 and 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙠, is pretty value for money as they set you back only by $26.90.

Instead of the usual grill at a K-BBQ restaurant, their K-BBQ is serve in a hotplate accompanied with light soup, alike to our all-time favourite Thai-Mookata. I really like the fact that they use korean anchovy soup base as it elevates the flavors of the dish. Further enrich the flavors of the broth by pouring soup over the grilling hotplate, letting the flavors and juices from the meat flows into the broth. The meat was tender and well-marinated and I highly recommend their bulgogi beef!

Another dish not to be missed for korean food lovers will be their 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐰. I went ahead with @shanepowxp recommendation which consists of 𝙗𝙪𝙡𝙜𝙤𝙜𝙞 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙛, 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙣 for $24.90. Their army stew boasts a full-bodied and complex broth accompanied with the usual ingredients such as luncheon meat, sausages, korean fish cake, rice cake and instant noodles.

I tried their 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢 𝐁𝐨𝐰𝐥 too. The bowl comes with a sizeable portion of salmon generously topped with lightly-torched mentaiko sauce. The in-house concocted mentaiko sauce was rich, creamy, savoury and melts in your mouth without being too cloying.

The usual korean fare in a restaurant tends to be pricey, hence @gogiyo.sg is a good alternative offering affordable yet delicious korean food in our neighbourhood. They have just recently opened a new outlet at Bukit Merah offering a wider variety of korean dishes! What are you waiting for? Jio your friends and head over to @gogiyo.sg for a wallet-friendly korean fare now!
