This Privacy Policy explains how Fatspoting collects, uses, stores, and shares personal data when you visit fatspoting.com, subscribe, sign in, comment, or contact us.
Information we collect
- Membership information: your name, email address, sign-in activity, subscription preferences, and any comments you choose to post.
- Messages: the details you include when you email us about an enquiry, collaboration, correction, or privacy request.
- Technical and analytics data: information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, browser and device type, referring page, and basic performance data.
How we use information
We use this information to operate and secure the website, provide member sign-in and subscription features, send updates you request, understand aggregate site usage, improve our content, respond to enquiries, and prevent spam or abuse. We do not sell personal data.
Cookies and analytics
Fatspoting uses Ghost for publishing and member features. Ghost may use cookies or browser storage that are necessary for sign-in, member sessions, and site operation. We also use Google Analytics and our self-hosted Umami analytics service to understand aggregate readership and site performance. You can limit non-essential analytics through your browser settings, content blockers, or the controls offered by your browser.
Service providers and international processing
The website is hosted on a managed virtual server and runs Ghost with a local database. We also use service providers for infrastructure, email delivery, security, and analytics, including Google Analytics and Umami. These providers may process information in Singapore or other countries where they operate. Where personal data is transferred outside Singapore, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives a standard of protection comparable to Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act.
Retention
Member records are retained while the membership is active or until deletion is requested, subject to short backup, security, and legal-retention periods. Enquiries are kept only as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain appropriate records, or resolve disputes. Analytics data is retained according to the settings of the relevant analytics service.
Your choices and rights
You may unsubscribe using the link in an email or change your member preferences where available. You may also ask to access, correct, or delete personal data, withdraw consent, or ask how it has been used or disclosed. We may request enough information to verify that the request concerns you.
