Kwanszichar โ New Zi Char Opening on Waterloo Street

Located along Waterloo Street is a newly opened Zi Char store @kwanszichar . Started by a group of friends aiming to serve restaurant-standard food in a hawker setting, you can expect quality food with reasonable prices at @kwanszichar .

Features a whole lobster. The broth here was really light, sweet and flavorful. As they added Chinese Wine to the broth, it enhances the sweetness and umami flavors of the broth. This is no doubt a comforting bowl of noodles, especially on rainy days.

Their presentation of this dish really impresses me - nicely sliced whole fish were neatly and cleanly presented on a plate, along with a steamboat pot containing broth, vegetables, yam cubes and seaweed. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find the broth bearing a prominent yet mild herbal flavour to it.

The black pepper sauce was aromatic! I like how the black pepper sauce has a dominant black pepper flavour with a suitable level of heat, yet hitting your taste buds with a mildly sweet, savoury and umami flavour at the same time!

The sauce was pretty good - sweet with a mild tang of spiciness. I personally prefer if the sauce has more kick to it!

The aroma reaches us once this dish was served. Fried till a golden-brown colour, the chicken was crisp on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. I really like how delicious the marination was too!
