Lobby Lounge — Afternoon Tea

The King of Fruits takes centre stage at Lobby Lounge, Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel with the return of its Mao Shan Wang Durian Afternoon Tea, and this is definitely one for serious durian lovers.

Served on a striking tree-inspired stand, the sweets lean unapologetically into Mao Shan Wang while still bringing in enough contrasting flavours and textures to keep things interesting. The Mango Sago Durian Puff was one of my favourites, pairing creamy durian with juicy mango and soft sago for a bright, tropical combination. I also enjoyed the Durian Yam Mochi Tart, where earthy yam and chewy mochi mellow out the richness of the durian, all held together by a crisp tart shell.

For something richer, the Durian Cheesecake delivers that unmistakable creamy, bittersweet Mao Shan Wang flavour, while the Durian Tiramisu with Lemongrass Jelly was surprisingly balanced. The pandan, gula melaka and durian mascarpone make it indulgent, but the refreshing lemongrass jelly keeps it from becoming too heavy.

Thankfully, it is not all sweets. The Smoked Duck Mango Brioche hits a lovely sweet-savoury note with a gentle chilli kick, while the Grilled Mushroom and Miso Mayo Tartlet is earthy and umami-rich. The Cherry Tomato and Feta Mousse Tartlet adds some welcome freshness, and if you visit over the weekend, there is also the Grilled Prawn, Lime Avocado and Fish Roe Cup, a lighter, zesty break between all that durian.

What makes the experience particularly leisurely is that it also comes with two rotating free-flow canapés, unlimited TWG tea and Lavazza coffee, plus a flute of champagne or sparkling tea on weekends. If you love Mao Shan Wang but want to enjoy it in something beyond the usual durian flesh or dessert, this is a fun and polished way to indulge while it is still durian season.
