🐟 Tokyo’s viral towering seafood bowl is now in Singapore!

MUKAI has finally landed at Plaza Singapura, bringing its famous Kaiho Don all the way from Shibuya, Tokyo 🇯🇵

And yes, the bowls really are as dramatic as they look 😂 Instead of the usual neatly arranged slices of sashimi, you get a literal mountain of chopped seafood piled over sushi rice, with tuna, salmon, sea bream, amberjack and, depending on the bowl, indulgent additions like fatty tuna, uni and ikura. The entry-level Kaiho Don Nami starts at $28.90++, while the more premium bowls go all the way up to $79.90++.

What makes MUKAI more interesting than your usual kaisendon is how customisable everything is. You can pick white or mixed-grain rice, white or red vinegar, your rice portion, and even your broth for later. Personally, I’d go for the red vinegar if you prefer your sushi rice with a deeper, slightly richer tang.

But don’t finish the entire bowl at once! Save some for the second half, where hot dashi is poured over everything to turn it into ochazuke 🍵 It completely changes the dish from something cold and fresh into a warm, comforting bowl. Between the broth options, the Asari clam dashi sounds like the one to try for a sweeter, more layered seafood flavour.

There are some pretty interesting sides too. The Maguro Daikon is simple but comforting, with daikon simmered until soft and flavourful, while the Maguro Gobo is actually a Singapore-exclusive dish made with tuna and burdock root. Their savoury, dashi-forward tamagoyaki is another nice addition if you’re sharing.
